RE: Stupidest thing you’ve done while RVing

Drove off with the trailer door open and found our pots and pans a block down the road after another camper waved me down. I thought he was drunk. I did had the doors locked in first place but with kids screaming and need to use the bathroom one more time and dog getting into a fight with another dog I failed to do the final check. Sheeess I need aother beer…
Why I am in charge of this mad house. Not sure!!!

Nissan Titan and Fifth Wheel towing

Anyone pulling a fifth wheel with a Nissan Titan Crew Cab, 2007 Model with the big tow package. I normally don’t like to pull anything past the 60% GVWR but seriously thinking about getting a fifth wheel around the 7300lb Dry weight. The Titan can handle 9400lbs.
Any advice

5th Wheel VS class "C"

Hello Folks,
I am now on my second trailer, started with a 24 feet hybrid and moved up to 30 feet Kodiak travel trailer. We have two young boys ages 8 and 12 very active outdoors type. My wife and I are thinking of trading up to a class “C” but with the young active children that love water sports and like to go places when we camp we are not sure if a motorhome is practical.
We looked at the fifth wheel and the class “c” motorhome.
Question:
1) How do you find owning a motor home and pulling a small recreation vehicle?
2) How do you find the driving and manoeuvring of a fifth wheel?
Any advice is much appreciated and thanks in advance.
Cheers,

RE: cast iron

Put it back on the fire and use a wire brush and lots of elbow grease. Remember your body needs the iron and avoid the cheap coated made in China junk.

RE: problems with jayco

I am curios to know what problems you are having with your Jayco floor. I live in the frozen North, Edmonton Alberta and we had a harsh winter this year. Many trailer owners complained about peeling and crack floors on trailer built in the US last year. Apparently the manufacture cheap out and glue the perimeter of the lino floors only leaving the other areas to warp, crack and peel.

RE: Minivan towing experience

The Weight distribution system hookup is a big help and I wonder why people with PUP trailers don’t use them more often. If you look back long time ago people use to pull the long AIRSTREAM’s with cars.

RE: Flat Panel TV

I just went and splurge on 2 Toshiba 19HLV87 19" LCD HDTV/DVD Player Combination. You can buy wall mount stands from Costco as well and all less than 1K.
I was tired of hauling a big clunky 27 Inch Zennith that weighs almost the same as the fridge.

Travel Satellite Tripod

I am looking for a Travel Satellite Tripod and went online to camping world. The reviews are mixed about this product.
Q> Does anyone have the Winegard Antenna Tripod and happy with it or it’s a piece of junk.
Thanks in Advance!

RE: help in choosing a TT

You are putting yourself and others in serious danger by trying to pull so close to the MAX. In my six years of trailering experience, I will never pull anything more than 60% of the tow vehicle GVWR.

RE: Black tank help

Here is a tried and true method of cleaning the Black Water Tank, sort of invented by a roadside cafe waitress in the 50's. When that waitress burnt the bottom of the glass coffee pot, no amount of scrubbing would get it clean quickly. The waitress simply put in some ice cubes in the pot, swirled it around, and voila, clean coffee pot! The same method will work to clean the inside of the black water tank.
Start with the tank empty. Fill it with water just below the first sensor's level. Then add 3-4 bags of department store ice cubes through the toilet. Drive the vehicle immediately for 10-15 minutes, ensuring you go up and down hills to swirl the ice around. The movement of the cubes will clean stuck toilet paper and feces from the sensors, and give the tank a great scrub without damaging the seals or costing a lot of money (about $3). Those commercial sensor cleaners cost over $10 and don't work very well. The bleach method does not scrub and that's what you need to clean the sensors. Give it a try.

RE: Warranty Responsibility

Dealer and Manufactures do read this forum. I have had warranty work in the past that keep getting ignored by the dealer and as soon as i post to this forum, magically in less than one week my trailer was all fixed up and ready for me.

RE: Diagnosing black tank leak

There is no test to detect leak except for what Sandy mention above. Put a couple of garbage bags on the ground so you can see exactly where the leak is coming from and your camping neighbour will appreciate it.
Anyhow here is a handy tip in case your sensor stop working.
Once in a while you may also want to try this method to clean out any hardened residue. (This is borrowed from the RV-FAQ, which is posted each month to a number of RV user groups.)

Good Sam Club in Western Canada and service delivery

I am thinking about signing up for the Good Sam Club Membership for the first time this summer. Any feedback from RV’ers in the great white north or surrounding areas (Alberta, Canada) about the service delivery in western Canada. I am most interested in the emergency roadside assistance service.
Thanks in advance!

RE: Which Generators Are The Quietist?

I am from the TT section can't afford a class "C" yet but love the new Jayco Melbourne 29ft model . But from speaking from experience in the TT world the YAMAHA is the quieter followed by the Honda then the KIPOR.

RE: Trailer Keys Caution

Skip, the main key I was referring to is the main trailer door not the storage compartment. Maybe when I opened the trailer door next to mines the deadbolt probably was open at the time. I did not pay close attention. I am planning a trip to the dealer this weekend to find out more about this. I e-mail the dealer but no response yet. So far I have had no incident with redards to theft or missing anything at a campsite. I had to put up with more rowdy drunks than anything else but it never hurt to be vigilant.

Trailer Keys Caution

I was surprised to find out that my main trailer door key can open other trailer of same brand, make and model. I happened to stumble across this by opening another person trailer by accident in a RV storage site that was parked right next to my trailer.
Check your keys and try it out at the dealer if you can.

RE: File sharing

You could try installing itunes if it is the license source and then try burning it using Nero. I am a big fan of Roxio but with thumb/jump drives being so cheap I stop burning to disk all together. All that format restriction junk.

RE: Exterior Grill Option - Hazard?

Use the common sense rule and you will be fine.
* Watch for flare ups
* Don't leave the grill unattended
Tape a sheet of tin foil on the trailer wall when cooking.
* Check with the manufacture and warranty fine print being so close to the trailer wall.
etc.

RE: Computer Bugs I hate them

Try using a different virus scanner you might scan and pick up something different with better quarantine option. I never like Antispyware programs I always thought that they do more harm than good.
I know trend micro have a free tool called “House Call” it’s an online web virus scanner that will check your system and clean up it for you.
www.trendmicro.com
Look for House Call: online web virus scanner
Note: Surfing the internet with a system that have no layer of security i.e., protecting the Operating System is simply looking for problems. In simple term if you are surfing the web and have administrative privileges then you are playing with fire.
Here is how to prevent PC from getting viruses and securing the workstation.
Oh! This coming from a MAC and PC guy. This is why the MAC's are getting popular for this same reason.
Example of a good PC system Layout:
User 1 : Administrator (Only use to install programs, windows update, and devices)
User 2: Restricted access (user can use existing programs and operate the operate safely, browsing the web etc.)
User 3: Restricted access same as User 2
User 4: Restricted access same as User 2, 3
Good Luck
